Support for Employees Caring for a Parent With Dementia
Many employees are quietly juggling work with the emotional and practical load of caring for a parent with dementia. It’s rarely spoken about, yet it can have a profound impact on wellbeing, focus, attendance and the ability to cope at work.
Most people don’t disclose their caring role until they’re already overwhelmed. This support gives them a safe, specialist space to steady themselves before they reach burnout.
Why this matters for organisations
Dementia now touches almost every workplace. Adult children, especially daughters, often carry the emotional and logistical burden, even when the hands-on care is done by someone else.
Key Statistics
48% of unpaid carers combine caring with paid work. (Carers UK, 2024)
Women are significantly more likely to be unpaid carers, particularly in midlife. (ONS, 2024)
Working-age carers report higher stress, anxiety and poorer mental health than non-carers. (ONS, 2024)
Many adult children caring for a parent with dementia are coordinating care, decision-making and emotional support, often from a distance. (Carers UK, 2024)
Adults aged 45–64 provide the highest proportion of unpaid care, while also navigating menopause, peak work responsibilities and family demands. (ONS, 2024)
These pressures often fall on experienced women, senior contributors and specialists - people organisations can’t afford to lose.
